A romantic love token locket featuring old photographs, possibly daguerreotypes or ambrotypes, set over a field of mother of pearl. The photographs are portraits of a man and a woman, middle aged and not particularly handsome. There is something especially touching about a token celebrating the love of plain, ordinary people. The images are set under glass on either side of a 14k rosy gold double-sided locket. An unusual and very personal piece. Circa 1870.
